Nick Yadro, age 97, peacefully passed away on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at his home in Eagle River, surrounded by all his family.
Nick was born in Eagle River, Wis., May 19, 1919, to George and Mary Yadro. He had five brothers and one sister who all preceded him in death.
His family moved to Florence, Wis., where he was raised on a farm. He worked in an iron mine for five years, starting at age 18.
Nick entered the Army in 1942. He was in anti-aircraft serving as chief on a halftrack. Nick landed on Omaha beach, D-day plus 1. He served in the European Theatre, and also was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned home in November 1945.
He married Emma, the love of his life, on Jan. 28, 1946. They had been happily married for 70 years.
Nick worked as a carpenter all his life, and left his quality trademark on hundreds of homes in the Eagle River area.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. Deer hunting was his passion, and he harvested his last buck in 2014.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jeannette Hahn; and various other family members.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Emma Yadro of Eagle River; children, John (Sue) of Middleton, Wis., David (Cathy) of Wausau, Wis., and Peg (Dave) Tipple of Oregon, Wis.; son-in-law, Phil Hahn of Three Lakes, Wis.; grandchildren, Phil (Bevin), Jean Marie, Trenton (Kendra), Andy (Amanda), Dustin (Hannah), Katie and Christian; four great-grandchildren and one due in January; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral services will be at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016 at noon, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Military service honors will be directly after the church service. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
