Eugene “Gene” Kwaterski, 81, a 26-year resident of Three Lakes, Wis., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at his home.
Born on Jan. 20, 1935, in West Allis, Wis., Gene was the son of Stanley and Laura Kwaterski.
Gene and his wife of 61 years, Mabel, lived in many areas of Wisconsin where they owned and operated many successful businesses including The Parkway Tavern in Fish Creek, Wis., for six years; Aero Marine in Three Lakes, with brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Arlene, for 13 years; and Kwaterski Millwork in Wausau/Merrill for 10 years.
Gene was also a licensed building contractor in Florida for seven years and loved to do woodworking projects for his family.
He served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany.
Gene also served his “hometown” of Three Lakes as president of the Three Lakes Waterfront Association.
He enjoyed the North Woods by hunting, fishing and boating.
Above all, he enjoyed the time spent with his family. As his family grew up and moved to other areas, Gene would like to keep in touch by sending newspaper articles of his beloved Packers and sending care packages that always included popcorn seeds, of which he was famous for popping up a batch at every family gathering.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and 10 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mabel Kwaterski of Eagle River, Wis.; children, Mike (Karla) Kwaterski of Three Lakes, Ann (Jerry) Jakubowski of Rib Mountain, Wis., Jim (Judie) Kwaterski of Bend, Ore., Teri (Jerry) Denman of Greenville, S.C., Michele Kwaterski of Greenville; brother, Ed (Arlene) Kwaterski of Three Lakes; sister, Margie Malnory of Jackson, Wis.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Three Lakes. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
