Timothy Browder Jensen

Timothy Browder Jensen returned to his Heavenly Father on June 1, 2016.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Aug. 30, 1976. After living in several foster homes, he was adopted by Karl Hal Jensen and Deborah Marie Houle-Jensen. He was the first in their family of six children.
They lived in Utah, Michigan, Ohio, and finally, in Eagle River, Wis.
Timmy was a delightful, developmentally-disabled young man.
He loved to be around people and would scoot up next to new visitors to greet them. Even though he could not talk, he loved to have others talk to him and would sometimes be very insistent on getting their attention.
Timmy’s great love in life was food of all kinds. He learned to feed himself with a spoon, a skill far above his other capabilities. He also loved playing in the water at a pool or lake.
He had a great love for his brothers and sister, his parents, as well as the caretakers and nurses who helped him.
He has now returned as a conquering warrior and archangel to his heavenly home.
He is survived by his parents, Karl Hal Jensen and Deborah Marie Houle-Jensen; and his siblings, Neil Spencer Jensen, Eric Stephen Jensen, Seth Edward Jensen, Lauren Elizabeth Jensen and Noah Allen Jensen.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 780 Iverson Street, Rhinelander, Wis, on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 11 a.m.
Generations Funeral Home & Crematory of Tomahawk is assisting the family. View Timothy’s obituary and leave online condolences at generationsfuneral.com.

Elisabeth Alma Bauer (née Johannes) was called into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the age of 92.
She was born on April 5, 1924, in Two Rivers, Wis., and was made a child of God through Holy Baptism on April 27, 1924.
She was married on June 20, 1948, to the Rev. H. Paul Bauer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Two Rivers.
Together, they had seven children, John of Greenfield, Wis., and former daughter-in-law, Jacqueline of Milwaukee, Wis., James (Gayle) of Lake Mills, Wis., Peter (Bonnie) of Glendale, Ariz., Paul (Rebecca) of Lake Mills, Mary (Jeff) Kurbis of Tacoma, Wash., Andrew (Rachel) of Lake Zurich, Ill., and Elisabeth (Brett) Bender of Hamilton, Mont.
They were also blessed with 25 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two brothers, the Rev. John Johannes (Joanne) of Neenah, Wis., and Edward Johannes of Valencia, Calif.
Elisabeth prepared herself for the public teaching ministry of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod by attending Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn., and began her teaching career in Kewaunee, Wis., in 1945.
She left teaching in 1948, to join her husband in his pastoral ministry, serving congregations in Faith, S.D., Minocqua, Wis., rural Dexter, Minn., North Platte, Neb., and Denmark, Wis.
Her husband concluded his ministry teaching religion and German at Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
Elisabeth was a full-time mother and worked tirelessly to raise her children and support her husband. When they moved to Two Rivers, she resumed her teaching career at St. John’s Lutheran School in Two Rivers, teaching fourth grade until they both retired in 1988.
After she and her husband retired, they moved to Eagle River, Wis., and finally moved to Lake Mills in 2001, to be closer to family.
After her husband died in March of 2011, she continued to live independently in her home until February of 2015, when she moved to Brook Gardens Assisted Living in Lake Mills.
She endeared herself to the staff and residents there and stayed busy watching her Brewers and emailing family members until she suffered a stroke in July that left her needing skilled nursing care. Her final days were spent at Alden Estates of Jefferson, Wis.
The godly example she provided as a Christian mother and teacher contributed to six of her children entering the Lutheran teaching ministry and one becoming a Lutheran pastor. Nine grandchildren have also trained for the public ministry of the church.
Known as the “cookie grandma,” Elisabeth cherished visits from her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Her wisdom, grace, and patient endurance provided a witness of God’s love and mercy to her family, friends, and all who cared for her and reflected the firm belief that when she died she would be with Jesus in Heaven.
A service of praise and comfort will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1530 S. Main St., Lake Mills, on Sunday, June 12, at 3 p.m.

Marvalene M. Burt

Marvalene M. Burt, 93, of Viroqua, passed away Friday morning at Gundersen Health Facility in La Crosse surrounded by the family she loved so much.
She was born Nov. 7, 1922, near West Lima, rural Vernon County, to Burrell and Glennye (Braithwaite) Coy.
Marvalene’s father died when she was 3 years old. She and her three brothers were raised by a single mother during hard times when money was scarce but family love was abundant. She learned about work and sacrifice at a young age — a lesson she carried throughout her life.
She graduated from West Lima High School in 1940, and on June 1 of that same year married Floyd Burt, a West Lima native who taught school in rural Vernon County. At that time, Floyd and his brother, Durward, were in the process of building a cheese factory in Bud, a tiny unincorporated community near Viroqua.
For several decades she helped run the family business that gained a sterling reputation for producing quality cheddar cheese. The couple operated the factory until the mid-1980s when they retired from the business but continued living in Bud for several more years before moving to Viroqua.
Floyd died in 2011, just months before their 71st wedding anniversary.
In addition to raising their two children, Terry (Dana) Burt of La Crosse and Sue Fischer of Eagle River, Marvalene was instrumental in the success of the cheese business, including performing payroll and other bookkeeping functions as well as occasional hands-on factory work as needed.
Marvalene was preceded in death by her three brothers, all U.S. Army veterans of World War II. They are Bernal (Elaine) Coy of Richland Center, Bernard (Faye) Coy of Viroqua and Ronald (Betts) Coy of Globe, Ariz. Also preceding her in death was son-in-law, James Fischer, of Eagle River.
She was active in the Order of Eastern Star for 68 years, serving in numerous offices in Viroqua #35. She was honored earlier this spring by receiving an appointment as Grand Representative of Connecticut in Wisconsin and spent several days in Stevens Point with her oldest grandchild, Amy, at Grand Chapter, an Eastern Star event in Stevens Point.
For many years she thoroughly enjoyed the crafts, needlework and other projects with her many longtime friends and neighbors in a homemakers club in the Bud area.
She was fond of telling stories about Floyd and her in the days before air conditioning when they ended a long, hot summer work day with a motorcycle ride and a visit to a nearby pond for a cool, refreshing dip.
In later life they upgraded to the comfort of a motorhome and often travelled, caravan style, with their RV friends. They sometimes spent the coldest part of Wisconsin winters in the sun and warmth of Arizona.
In recent years, even as her eyesight was failing, Marvalene followed the fortunes of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team and her favorite player, Ryan Braun.
She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Terry’s children are Amy Burt of Milledgeville, Ga.; Randall Burt of Grafton, Wis.; Erich (Lori) Burt of West Salem; Brenda (Chris) Matthews of Frankfort, Ky.; and Michelle (Brian) Thomas of Austin, Texas.
Sue’s children are David Fischer of Rhinelander; Patrick (Cindy) Fischer of Green Bay; Shelly Fischer of Raleigh, N.C.; Melissa (Tim) Tanke of Green Bay; and Amanda (Paul) Bushmaker of Stevens Point.
She was also extremely proud of her 11 great-grandchildren, Collin and Cooper Matthews; Joe and Ben Tanke; Adelyn, Lauren and Olivia Burt; Nathan Fischer; and Simon, Max and Ava Bushmaker.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Viroqua Church of Christ, 825 Nelson Parkway, with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery.
