On Oct. 6, 2016, Don moved from his earthly home to his heavenly home.
Don began his life on Sept. 27, 1931, in Chicago, Ill.
He attended Lowell Elementary School and Lane Tech.
After graduating, he joined the Navy. Four years later he completed his enlistment on Feb. 1, 1955. Two weeks later, on Feb. 14, he met the young lady, a Miss Joan Ebert, who was to become his lifetime sweetheart. They were married on July 14, 1956.
He attended DeVry Tech in Chicago and began his 30-year career as a TV technician.
After that he formed his own company, “Don At Your Service,” doing what had always been his passion, home maintenance.
In 1995, Don and Joan decided it was time to retire and build a home in the great Northwoods on a property purchased years before. They spent the years between 1995 and 2013 dividing their time between their Northwoods home and their home on Pine Island on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
In 2013, Don’s health deteriorated, making the trip to Florida too difficult. In 2014, when further deterioration of his health made it impossible to remain at home, Don entered Avanti Health and Rehab Center, where he received excellent care.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister.
Don leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Joan; son, Don R.; grandson, Rob; granddaughter, Lorrane; great-grandson, Christian; many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Sayner, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shepherd of the Lakes.
Come help us celebrate Don’s life, feel free to wear colorful clothing.
