Frank J. Cherney, age 91, passed away in the earliest hours of Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Dianne’s Home in the Northwoods in Eagle River, Wis.
He was born July 18, 1925, to John and Joanne Cherney.
He served as a U.S. Navy Seabee during World War II, in the Aleutian Islands and in the Philippines.
After he returned stateside, he met and fell in love with Bernadine Shala. They married and had three children.
Frank worked at Pyle National in Chicago until he retired to Eagle River.
Frank built their home in Eagle River that he and Bernadine lived in. The house, originally meant to be a small cabin on the lake, evolved through multiple expansions to become a showcase home. Frank was always meticulous with every detail, from the woodwork to the landscaping.
Frank was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He loved talking and visiting with his many close neighbors and friends. He enjoyed going out to eat and having the occasional highball.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Paul) McConaughey; and three grandchildren, Trevor, Keeley and Patrick.
He was close to his daughter and held a special relationship with his grand-
daughter, Keeley. They communicated often through her letters to him.
A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Eagle River
The family would like to thank Dianne’s Home in the Northwoods for their kindness and support. We have many thoughts of Frank. He is now once again with his beloved Bernadine. His legacy is etched in our minds and he will always be in our hearts.
